Basics Supporting tagline
In this tutorial, we will use two geographical layers downloadable from the NaturalEarth database online and already available in the /dss_course_dataset folder:
/dss_course_dataset/qgis/1-basics
Files to be used are:
ne_10m_admin_0_countries.shp (world countries)
ne_10m_populated_places_simple.shp (world main cities)
1. Opening, selecting and closing vector layers

4. Styling layers through the ‘Properties Dialog box’
Files to be used are:
ne_10m_admin_0_countries.shp (world countries)
ne_10m_populated_places_simple.shp (world main cities)

5. Saving styling, layers as a project
Once you styled your layers, open several vector layers, … if you close QGIS you will loose all your settings. To save a specific arrangements of layers and settings you need to save it as a QGIS project. To do so, simply go to:
Menu "File" -> "Save Project As"
and choose a name for your QGIS project. The extension for a QGIS project is “.qgis”
Once saved, you can re-open it using of course:
Meny "File" -> "Open Project ..."
