1. Installing QGIS extensions, modules

As Open-Source software, QGIS users and developers familiar with programming can develop and provide the communty with additionnal features as extension modules (plugin). Plugins are stored in repositories (servers hosting QGIS modules contributors).

In this tutorial, we will see how to install and activate new plugins (here, ‘Statist’ that allows to plot values histogram).

2. List of QGIS plugins to be installed and activated

Note 1: note that some of them are installed by default)

  • ftools (Tools for vector analysis and management)
  • TableManager (Manages attribute table structure)
  • GdalTools (Advanced tools for raster layer analysis and management)
  • OpenLayersPlugin (Allows to visualize GoogleMap layers, including satellite imagery directly into QGIS. Among others …)
  • Statist (Allows to visualize attribute data histograms)

Note 2: Some plugins might have been installed but not activated Check for instance that ‘Add Delimited Text Layer’ has been activated (allows to import “.csv” data into QGIS)
